The Department is staffed by full-time and volunteer firefighters and provides emergency assistance throughout the City of Colwich and surrounding Union Township.

We cover a 35 mile diverse response area consisting of the City of Colwich and Union Township. Our current ISO rating is 4 in the city limits. In addition to our rural response area, our protection responsibilities include a new 3 story low rise office and manufacturing facility employing 250 workers. We also provide BLS first responder care for Sedgwick County EMS (ALS) in our response area. Apply to be a volunteer firefighter.

Burn permits are issued through the Administrative Services Office, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Once issued, burn permits are effective until December 31st of the year they are issued for residents living in Union Township. Open burning is not permitted within the corporate limits of the City of Colwich. Click here to apply
