Colwich Lions ClubColwich Lions Club has been active in Colwich for over six years, and it’s surprising how much they’ve accomplished in that short time. .. The Club’s largest fund raiser is their Fireworks Stand in Kraus Groceries’ parking lot. The funds raised by the Lions stay entirely here in our Community. The International Lions Club’s special interest is supporting Vision, Hearing and Diabetes research. The Colwich Club has more local goals.
The following is a list of some of the projects the Colwich club has completed to help the community.
Lions have sponsored 19+ families from our area at Christmas, furnishing food certificates to Kraus grocery, plus needed gifts .
Cleaned up trash along 167th St from the City boundary all the way north to K-96. Twice a year members gather with trash bags from SG CO Adopt a Highway program, and pick up trash.
Raised money to complete the walking path around the lake in the city’s new Memorial Park. This fund along with a Sunflower Grant written by Lions Past President, Lioness Stephanie Guy, and matched by the city’s Park budget, completed what was formerly the “Sidewalk to Nowhere” .
Collected donations for the Salvation Army at Christmas time by ringing the BELL all day at Dillons on Saturday each season. Helped sponsor the fireworks display for the Heritage Festival with money raised by the Lions Fireworks Stand in July. Lions organized Festival games and sponsored a food booth & Chicken Bingo as fundraisers at the festival.
Sponsor and organize the Christmas Tree Lighting in the Park ea year. Bought lights and decorations, provide hot chocolate and candy canes.
Helped the 4H Club with the First Annual Soup Supper, and donated all the funds to 4H. Collect Coats and Gloves at the tree lighting and delivered them to Salvation Army or other organizations for distribution.
